THE COMPANY:
Our Client is a leader in the global Pharmaceutical  development and distribution environment. They are sensitive to issues surrounding the environment at the same time being a quality centric company that focuses on continuous improvement.
THE ROLE:
As one of two Director of Process Research in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada you will be responsible for analyzing, evaluating, and improving upon synthetic organic chemistry and process development relative to the pharmaceutical environment. You will be responsible and manage 18-24 chemists, formed into project teams, engaged in synthetic route selection, research, development and optimization of chemical processes from bench scale through transfer of processes to kilo, pilot and commercial scale manufacturing.  Reporting to the site General Manager, the candidate will be responsible for managing Process R&D laboratory staff, serving as department representative on development teams and coordinating activities with the Alberta site Director Process Development and with Global operations Process Development leaders.
The major components of this opportunity are:
·         Synthetic route selection, process optimization and scale-up of synthetic processes from gram scale.
·         Parallel experimentation by Process Chemistry scientists.
·         Process chemistry and scale-up concepts and techniques.
·         Synthetic organic chemistry concepts and techniques.
Safety, regulatory and compliance issues as they relate to the development of pharmaceuticals.
CANDIDATE PROFILE  
TO FIT THE ROLE:
In order to be considered a strong fit for this role you will have:
1.     Proven leadership skills in a dynamic environment
2.     A strong understanding of the synthetic organic chemistry in pharmaceuticals
3.     Creative drive and understanding of how chemicals interact with each other and their surroundings
4.     10-15+ years experience working as a laboratory chemist in a process research and development capacity
5.     A PhD science ideally in organic chemistry 
6.     Ability to communicate on many levels with all stakeholders
7.     Exceptional drive and enthusiasm for being a technical resource
8.     The ability to manage a team of creative genius'.
Candidates with experience and degrees from other countries are welcome to apply, but must relocate and live in the Edmonton area long term.

We offer a generous compensation plan consisting of a great base salary commensurate with education and experience,bonus program, benefits, share options, relocation, pension and more... Target income: 100K++
